Cartoonist and essayist, she was born on March 14, 1971 (lunar calendar) in Goheung, South Korea. Her works include "Grass", "The Wait", "The Naked Tree", "Alexandra Kim, the Siberian", "Dogs", "Jun" and "Tomorrow is another day", in addition to writing and illustrating several books. Her works were included in the list of best graphic novels by the New York Times, The Guardian and The Washington Post, and were awarded by the American Library Association/Young Adult Library Services Association, Virginia Library Association, Harvey Awards, Kraus Essay Award, Big Other Book Graphic Novel Award, Cartoonist Studio Prize for Best Print Comic, Spain Anti-Prize for the Best International Comic, Aragon Comic Awards for International Comic, among other awards from different countries around the world. She was also nominated for three Eisner Awards and several other awards . Currently, her works have been translated into 35 languages. The artist's presence is a partnership between CCXP, Editora Pipoca & Nanquim and Centro Cultural Coreano no Brasil.
